Here is a selection of the most relevant celebrations and events on climate change and sustainability that will take place this month.

OCTOBER 2020
- 03/10 - Responsible Water Management Day - DIAGUA
It calls for the attention of all sectors to work together to improve sanitary conditions and universal access to drinking water.
- 05/10 - World Habitat Day
It aims to promote public awareness of the state of cities and other human living spaces and the importance of collective responsibility for the territory and its orderly management.
- 10/10 - World Migratory Bird Day
It aims to amplify the message about bird conservation. The global scope of the celebrations seeks to raise awareness of the threats migratory birds face, their ecological importance, and the need for international cooperation for their conservation.
- 12/10 - Day of Indigenous Peoples and Intercultural Dialogue
Seeks the recognition of native peoples and their contribution to the richness of the country's cultural diversity; based on relationships of respect, equality, solidarity, cooperation and recognition of cultural differences that nurture the exercise of full citizenship and strengthen environmental governance.
- 12/10 - National Day for the Fight Against Biopiracy
It seeks mechanisms to combat biopiracy more effectively, such as the international certificate that provides proof of compliance with prior informed consent (PIC) and mutually agreed terms (MAT), at the national and international level.
- 10/13 - International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction
This day seeks to raise awareness in the States and their inhabitants so that they take measures to reduce the risks derived from natural disasters. The population needs to be prepared to face emergencies and reduce the effects of devastation resulting from floods, droughts, cyclones, earthquakes or eruptions, which are reported in terms of loss of human life and material damage.
- 10/14 - International Day of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment - WEEE
The purpose of this day is to create greater awareness of the need to recycle waste electrical and electronic equipment and the impacts that can be generated by its improper management.
- 16/10 - World Food Day
Established by FAO in 1979 to generate greater solidarity with those who live in indignity and suffer from hunger. It is a call to abandon indifference and take corrective measures that socially include the poorest. There are more than 820 million people who do not have enough to eat and the climate emergency is an increasingly serious threat to food security.
- 10/17 - Day of the Natural Protected Areas of Peru
The purpose of this date is to position and highlight their importance for human well-being and sustainable development, since they constitute the main strategy for the conservation of biological diversity and the provision of ecosystem services that ensure the well-being of current and future populations, while respecting the native peoples that live in them.
- 10/31 - World Cities Day
It promotes the importance of equitable and adequate access to basic urban services, as pillars of sustainable urbanization and, therefore, of widespread economic and social development.
