Regional Government of Arequipa launches #AQPSostenible campaign
The Regional Governor of Arequipa, Yamila Osorio Delgado, presented the campaign #AQPsustainable with the objective of promoting concrete actions to address climate change in coordination with the Ministry of Environment (MINAM) and the Regional Environmental Authority (ARMA).
In a ceremony held at the headquarters of the Mario Vargas Llosa Regional Library, and accompanied by various authorities from public and private institutions, Osorio declared the climate change agenda a priority in his current administration, mainly for issues related to solar energy and water stress.
«This initiative was created to join public and private efforts to ensure the availability of water for the future and also to promote the development of solar potential in southern Peru, with a view to 2021,» said the Governor.
Osorio based the initiation of these actions on the serious problems faced by the region with respect to the availability of water resources. «Water availability in Arequipa is irregular, scarce during the dry season and abundant when rainfall occurs, which has recently caused flooding.«said Osorio Delgado.
During the launch, the Governor announced the presentation of a draft Ordinance to the Regional Council of Arequipa to declare as a priority of her administration to implement concrete actions to address climate change thinking about the future of the region. “This initiative is part of a plan to 2021, which we will leave ready for the next governor.”announced the governor.
Moments later, the Governor requested the presence of Nicol, a student of the educational institution Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe de CIRCA, who during the swearing in of the environmental brigades held the day before, was asked to draw pictures that depict the ideal world for the current students of Arequipa.
«On behalf of the 25 educational institutions that made a commitment to you yesterday, I present this drawing that reflects the world we want and for which we will fight with each of our actions.«, explained the minor.
As part of the campaign presentation and accompanied by students, Governor Yamila Osorio took a selfie. «Thinking mainly of the children, today I am launching #AQPsostenible and I call on all institutions committed to the fight against the effects of climate change, and I ask the people of Arequipa to use this hashtag #AQPsostenible on social networks.«, he concluded.
The launch was held in the presence of representatives of the National Superintendency of Sanitation Services (SUNASS), of the Energy and Mining Investment Supervisory Agency (OSCE) (OSINERGMIN); of the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology of Peru (Senamhi); the National Water Authority (ANA); SEAL; among other outstanding institutions.
