The LEDSLAC webinar series comes to an end this Wednesday, March 21. The central theme will be to learn about climate action plans in the municipal sector in Latin America. This session will take place at 10:00 am and you can participate by clicking on the following link link.

Faced with the challenges of meeting Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), multilevel governance plays an important role in optimizing climate action and sustainable development. The articulation of climate instruments and tools between different levels of government is strategic to align top-down driven criteria, priorities and methodologies, while capturing local realities and needs.

This webinar addresses two cases of the Vertically Integrated Climate Policies and Climate Action II programs in Mexico and Costa Rica, promoted by the German Development Cooperation, GIZ. On the one hand, how in Mexico the state level, in this case Jalisco, brings national and state level climate policies to the municipal level through guidelines for the development of Municipal Climate Change Plans. On the other hand, how the national level in Costa Rica generates a tool to instruct cantons in the development of Greenhouse Gas Inventories (GHG) as a starting point towards meeting the ambitious goals set by the country.

Webinar agenda:

  • How to link NDC implementation with climate action at the municipal level? Tangmar Marmon. Director - Vertical Climate Protection Program (VICLIM), GIZ.
  • Vertically integrated Municipal Climate Change Plans. Emily Castro Prieto. Coordinator in Mexico - Vertical Climate Protection Program (VICLIM), GIZ. Arturo Palero Castro. Director of Management transversal Ante el Cambio Climático, Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo Territorial del estado de Jalisco, Mexico.
  • Municipalities against Climate Change - Pilot project for the development of GHG inventories in Costa Rica. Annika Berlin. Climate Action II Project Advisor, VICLIM and NAMA Café de Costa Rica, GIZ Costa Rica.
