Climate change and its effects on the planet are undeniable. If action to slow the advance of this phenomenon is insufficient and late, the social and economic costs will be high. However, through collective action and global efforts, there is still a chance of not exceeding a 2°C increase in the earth's temperature, and thus avoiding the most devastating impacts of this phenomenon.

During these months, countries are presenting their Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (iNDC), which represent the political decision of governments regarding the efforts they will undertake to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. These efforts are key elements of the new climate agreement to be agreed in Paris in December 2015 during COP21, and also represent an opportunity to articulate countries' development priorities with climate actions.

Ambassadors +1 is a platform of the Generation +1 Community, an initiative of Libélula, to promote youth participation in climate change governance. From this platform, young people with knowledge and skills assume the commitment to promote a vision of sustainability oriented to low-carbon and climate-resilient development in decision-making and public policies in the face of a new global climate agreement, and to generate synergies with other actors in society to catalyze climate commitments and actions.

To date, 30 young people from Peru and Latin America and the Caribbean, from different regions of Peru and countries such as Argentina, Costa Rica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay and Venezuela, have been selected to participate in this platform.

From August 24 to 29, these 30 young people will meet at the “International Seminar Ambassadors +1: Youth in climate change governance”, with the purpose of generating an evidence-based youth position on climate change governance. In addition, these young people will develop a plan for youth citizen participation in the local and international sphere aimed at influencing Nationally Determined Contributions and international climate negotiations. The International Seminar will have open training spaces: keynote speeches, dialogue and debate tables with renowned specialists and leaders in different topics, in which more interested young people are expected to participate.

You can participate in the seminar by registering at the following address link.

The seminar will be held at the facilities of the Javier Pérez de Cuellar - Casa de las Naciones Unidas Complex and at the campus of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. The International Seminar ”Ambassadors +1: Youth in Climate Change Governance" is organized by Generation +1, an initiative of Libélula, and by the Regional Program on Energy Security and Climate Change in Latin America of the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Foundation; and has the support of the Public Front COP20/COP21 of the Ministry of Environment, the United Nations Development Program; Cambia.pe of the Peruvian Society of Environmental Law, the Clima de Cambios initiative of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú and the Delegation of the European Union in Peru.
