The second day of the innovation workshop, “Nexos+1”, organized by the Peruvian company Libélula, was attended by Gunter Pauli, creator of the “Blue Economy” and the best seller of the same name. His innovative method has helped create 3 million jobs through businesses based on sustainability, the use of unusable assets and the non-generation of waste, in order to cope with the economic slowdown.

Gunter Pauli, also known as the “Steve Jobs of sustainability,” said during his lecture that the main objective of entrepreneurs, leaders and businessmen should be to create community, starting with the family. “We have to connect with the needs of the community and the greatest opportunity in the private sector lies in the contribution that can be made to society, the environment and the environment,” he said.

He also explained that the logic of entrepreneurship has been formalized even though it is evident that it exists. “There is a lot of technology available, but it is isolated, then we have to work to improve the approach and have clarity about the business being executed,” he indicated.

Blue Economy in Peru

Gunter Pauli explained that the blue economy bases its method on the business model and not on technology. This requires being competitive, generating employment, without a focus on economies of scale and cheaper production; resources must be locally available and value must be generated.

Among his various sustainability programs, Gunter Pauli explained one that can be replicated in Peru. “All mine waste can be turned into stone paper (80% of crushed stone) with 20% of a plastic material, and not a drop of water and not a deforested tree is needed. This can generate four times more employment. The future president of Peru should force the use of stone paper to generate more employment, as the Chinese government does, which does not issue licenses for gold mines if they do not produce stone paper,” he said.

Finally, the sustainable economy guru indicated that it is necessary to inspire children and believe in sustainable business. “In sustainability, ethics is very important, and we must understand that polluting less is the same as polluting, what is needed is to end pollution”.
