Enel, through its Peruvian renewable energy subsidiary Enel Green Power Peru ("EGPP"), started operations at the 180 MW Rubi solar photovoltaic plant1 , the largest in Peru and Enel's first solar power plant in the country. To celebrate this milestone, an inauguration ceremony was held today in the presence of the country's Minister of Energy and Mines, Angela Grossheim Barrientos; Antonio Cammisecra, Head of Enel's global Renewable Energies division, Enel Green Power ("EGP"), Luca D'Agnese, Enel's Head of South America, and Carlos Temboury, Enel's General Manager in Peru.

"The inauguration of the largest solar plant in Peru is clear evidence of our commitment to promote the development of renewable energies in the country, thus contributing to the diversification of the generation mix and to an increase in energy production from clean sources in the 12% southern region of Peru," said Antonio Cammisecra, Head of EGP. "The commissioning of Rubi a little more than a year after construction began reinforces our desire to continue to grow in Peru and take advantage of the country's high renewable potential."

Enel invested close to US$170 million in the construction of Rubí, as part of the investments included in the company's current strategic plan. The project, located in the city of Moquegua in the Mariscal Nieto province, is financed partly by the Enel Group's own resources and partly by the European Investment Bank. The plant is backed by a 20-year power supply contract signed with the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines. Once fully operational, Rubi will generate approximately 440 GWh per year, which will be injected into Peru's National Interconnected Electricity System (SEIN) through the Montalvo substation.

In line with the Creating Shared Value (CSV) model adopted by the Enel Group, which seeks to combine business development with the needs of local communities, EGPP carried out a training program for the local community in the recycling of wood used by the project for the manufacture of furniture, an initiative carried out in collaboration with the municipality of Moquegua. EGPP also signed an agreement with the Pampa Clemesí Risk Association to promote funds for the development of productive and social projects in the area of influence of the Rubí solar plant.

The supply contract (PPA) supporting the project was awarded to Enel in 2016 following a renewable energy auction called by OSINERGMIN, the energy regulator. Following the completion of the other two projects awarded in the auction along with Rubi, the 132 MW Wayra I wind farm and the 20 MW Ayanunga hydroelectric plant, EGPP will become the leading renewable energy player in Peru, as well as the only company in the country to operate plants with three different renewable technologies.

The Enel Group is present in the generation sector of the country through EGPP, as well as through Enel Generación Perú and Enel Generación Piura, which together have an installed capacity of approximately 2 GW. The Group also operates in the country's electricity distribution sector through Enel Distribución Perú, which serves 1.4 million customers in the Lima Region.

Enel Green Power, the renewable energy division of the Enel Group, is dedicated to the development and operation of renewable energies worldwide, and has a presence in Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Oceania. Enel Green Power is a world leader in the renewable energy sector with a capacity of approximately 40 GW in the generation mix that includes wind, solar, geothermal, biomass and hydroelectric power, and is at the forefront of the integration of innovative technologies in renewable power plants.
