Framework for Action on Climate Change
The Framework Law for Action against Climate Change is an initiative presented by Congressman Néstor Valqui, which proposes a series of measures to face the effects of climate change in Peru. It proposes that within the institutional framework, particular weight be given to the participation of civil society through a National Commission on Climate Change with the participation of academia, universities, indigenous organizations and the National Assembly of Regional Governments.
The importance of this Law is centered on the fact that the State must aspire to leave a balanced environment for future generations, so that they can develop in an adequate and sustainable manner.
This Bill also aims to strengthen the Ministry of the Environment (Minam) as the governing body of the National Climate Change Strategy, establishing measurable and real goals, since Peru is the third most vulnerable country to the effects of climate change due to its enormous biodiversity, which constitutes a great potential and at the same time a great vulnerability.
