InterCLIMA 2015: meeting, reporting and exchange for Climate Change management in Peru
One of the great achievements of the National Contribution (INDCs) in pursuit of the climate development agenda is the progressive valorization of Peru's forests and the enormous possibilities of reducing the emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHG).
In addition, the third edition of InterCLIMA 2015 will be held from October 27 to 29 in Cusco. There, the role of these iNDCs as public policy and the most effective means for their implementation, from the three levels of government, will be shown. Likewise, the difficulties and challenges for Land Use, Land Use Change and Forestry (USCUSS) in our country will be discussed, as well as the initiatives of the private sector and non-governmental organizations that are currently in operation.
“InterCLIMA 2015 demonstrates the strengthening of this space for discussion and even its decentralization by being held in Cusco. We will continue to raise awareness about Climate Change, not only with citizens but especially with decision makers, that is, with the authorities.”, said Gabriel Quijandría, Vice-Minister of Strategic Development of Natural Resources of the Ministry of Environment (MINAM).
InterCLIMA 2015 will bring together officials from MINAM and the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAGRI), as well as experts and representatives of international organizations, who will generate debate and various orientations on the direction of the implementation of the INDCs. At the end of this event, new governmental and non-governmental actors will be involved in climate change management, as well as recognizing the initiatives underway and their capacity to raise the level of global ambition.
“It is a vital and important moment, after the creation of SERFOR and the four regulations that will allow the entry into force of the Forestry and Wildlife Law, worked in a participatory manner. This is in addition to the work with MINAM for the NAMA mitigation commitments and InterCLIMA 2015 continues on this path”.”, Paula Carrión, Director of Agricultural Policies at MINAGRI, explained.
As we recall, this process intensified in our country last year, with the holding of the COP20 in Lima and the definition of the path towards a new global climate agreement. Added to this is the will of the international community to shape the sustainable development agenda for the years after 2015.
Several high-level international meetings and gatherings will take place in these final months of 2015, which will redraw a new era for sustainable development, such as the summit for the adoption of the post-2015 development agenda; the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP21 in Paris); the meeting of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Forests on the New Global Forest Institutional Course; the Annual Meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank to be held in Lima; and the International Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (SENDAI); among others.
The new international agendas will imply that at the country level, several elements of the national, sub-national and sectoral development agenda will have to be reformulated, and will involve bringing about transformative changes at an ambitious pace.
