Breakfast on the road to nexos+1: "Sustainability as a driver of innovation".

- Achieving a life-sustaining system is the goal, and to get there we need to make substantive changes as individuals, companies, and governments. For this we need to generate a culture and spaces for innovation.
- Having a massive transformational purpose is a requirement to grow exponentially as the positive impact must be contagious and generate value for many people.
- Innovation is essential for companies to persist over time. In large institutions this often generates resistance, as it sometimes requires questioning installed paradigms and taking risks, which also implies embracing failure.
- Sustainability cannot be an annex to the business strategy; it must be at the core of the decision-making processes and be integrated in a cross-cutting manner.
On Thursday, September 15, a breakfast was held on the way to nexos+1The event was attended by more than 30 entrepreneurs, innovation managers and promoters of the entrepreneurial ecosystem from different companies and organizations. The objective was to explore the challenges of the innovation ecosystem for sustainability in Peru, and to highlight the need to incorporate it as a central axis in innovation processes.
The breakfast featured speakers Phillip «Pipo» Reiser from Libelula, responsible for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Lab+1 and Co-Founder of Sinba; and Pedro Verdugo as special guest, founding partner and expert in Innovation at Gulliver, a Chilean innovation agency with more than 10 years of experience. The breakfast was held at UTEC Ventures, accelerator of technological businesses of the UTEC.
Pipo Reiser presented the challenges we face globally: “climate change is no longer a problem of the future, it is a reality of today”. He mentioned that the sum of all the commitments of the governments around the Paris Agreement would increase the average temperature by 3.5°C, when science tells us that we should not go beyond 2°C. “The gap between the two is everyone's responsibility. That is why we are gathered here, because private initiatives and ventures are the ones that will bridge the gap..” This is why it is possible and necessary to build businesses that have a positive footprint, that contribute to sustainability and society.
After a team dynamic moderated by Pedro Verdugo, a reflection was held on the role of sustainability in companies: “if you work with it from the beginning, it is easier to build structures that support it, as opposed to incorporating it at the end,” he said. “Innovating is complicated in corporate structures because you have to be ready for the adventure..”
On the other hand, Pedro explained the evolution of the exponential innovation in “6D” (Digitalization, deception, disruption, dematerialization, demonetization and democratization) “Every innovation begins with digitization, the stage where it can be monetized, and ends with democratization, where the technology is now available to everyone, is no longer exclusive and can no longer be monetized..” Finally, he presented the cases of the most successful innovations of recent years: “a company with massive transformational purpose, which causes disruption in the way things are done, is more likely to grow exponentially.”, he said.
The breakfast was closed by Pipo Reiser, who invited the attendees to incorporate what was presented in their organizations, since the commitment of all is required to achieve the necessary changes. He also invited the attendees to participate in nexos+1 this October 24 and 25, as Lab+1 will be officially launched.“With Lab+1 we want Peru to be the laboratory where innovative solutions to climate change with potential global applications are tested and developed..”
