Four lessons to tackle the new coronavirus

No one has been spared from the avalanche of news about the new Coronavirus in recent weeks. Here we share 4 insights, from the experience of climate action, that can help you make better decisions.
Listen to science
It is imperative that you verify the veracity of the information sources (a MIT study found that the "fake news(the "impact" is greater than real news).
In the era of social networks, it is estimated that a high percentage of what is published on the Internet is false or lacks scientific support. Some people seek to misinform and confuse by looking after their own interests. Worse, these contents are then replicated and taken as truth. We see it in climate change: 11,000 scientists from 153 countries demand urgent action, while politicians and personalities denounce alarmism. The result is total confusion. Avoid assuming a position of denial without information. This does not contribute to the solution of the problem.
Face reality
Denying the problem does not make it go away.
Studies show that in the face of complex and extremely vulnerable problems, people opt for avoidance and denial. "What difference can I make?" or "It's not going to happen to me" are common comments in these situations. Climate change brings catastrophic losses to global economies and incalculable social and environmental impacts. However, the negotiations continue to fail to deliver significant progress towards decarbonization. Italy is experiencing this first-hand: after China's experience with COVID-19 and despite having cases of infection on its territory, they dismissed the criticality of action. Late reaction costs you more today.
We are a unit
The collective good prevails over the individual good.
After a quarter of a century of negotiations to address climate change, it seems that there is still much to learn. It is curious to see how each country, blinded by its own interests, negotiates almost unilaterally without consensus to achieve the common good. To address the COVID-19 crisis, we can no longer think of individual solutions, country by country. We must think about the global solutionto collaborate, to share experiences, solutions and resources. And do it now.
The power is in you
It is in your hands to be part of the solution, every action adds up.
The actors that must be articulated for climate change are the same as those that faced COVID-19: states, international organizations, scientists, academia, regional and local governments, the media, businesses and the population. There are moments like this, in which each one of them must be part of the solution from their role. Every effort is valuable.
Just as every day we invite you to measure your impactTo reduce it and join efforts to build a better world; today we invite you to join in the task of controlling this virus. Get well informed, look for the common benefit and think about what else you can do from where you are.
