With the intention of publicizing the journalistic treatment of reports, opinion columns, investigations, reports, and interviews related to climate change, the Climate Radar. The software is developed by Libelulaa leading Peruvian climate change and communications consulting firm, with the support of the Konrad Adenauer FoundationThe research allows journalists, politicians, businessmen, specialists, opinion leaders, students and those interested in general to have access to a monthly analysis of the treatment of climate change in the main online media of 13 countries in the region. The research is complemented by a qualitative study conducted by professionals specialized in climate change.

ConexiónCOP and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation share the goal of influencing Latin American countries towards sustainable, low-carbon development. To achieve this goal, they recognize the importance of consolidating the role of the Latin American media as key actors for climate action, influencing the formation of an informed and sensitive public agenda in the face of this global challenge.

In this context, the Radar Climatic monitors the coverage of climate change issues by the main Latin American media, allowing, among other things, to track the amount of news published daily on the subject, identify the climate change-related topics that are most widely covered by the media, and highlight one successful case of climate change coverage per month.

The indicator measures two types of news: those that have climate change as a central theme, and those that only mention the topic within a broader context. In February, of the 41,500 total of news published in the digital version of the 16 newspapers, a 0.6% mentioned the subject, and a 0.2% to be found at centered in climate change content.

The media analyzed for the month of February 2017 are as follows:

Argentina

Bolivia

Colombia

Costa Rica

Honduras

Mexico

Panama

Peru

Uruguay

Venezuela

More media from the region will soon join the analysis.
