- 03/12 - Day for the Non-Use of Agrochemicals and the Promotion of Organic Agriculture
Promoted by the Pesticide Action Network (PAN) to raise awareness of the environmental health impacts caused by the use of toxic substances in the field (especially pesticides), seeking their progressive eradication. In 2008, our country published Law No. 29196, Law for the Promotion of Organic or Ecological Production, which aims to promote, develop, foster and encourage organic or ecological production in Peru to contribute to overcoming poverty, food security and the conservation of ecosystems and biological diversity, thus improving the quality of life of producers and consumers.
- 05/12 - World Soil Day
The World Soil Day 2021 (1TP5SoilDay) and its campaign «Soil Day 2021".«Halting soil salinization, increasing soil productivity« aims to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems by addressing soil management challenges, combating soil salinization, and encouraging all societies to commit to improving soil health. This is possible through technological innovation, the collection of information that helps to better manage these soils, new evidence-based policies, the restoration of affected areas and the promotion of sustainable soil management.
- 05/12 | International Volunteer Day
International Volunteer Day is celebrated every December 5. This day is a unique opportunity to give thanks for all the efforts made by volunteers and their organizations, as well as to promote their values and publicize the achievements they make in their communities, whether through non-governmental organizations (NGOs), United Nations agencies, government bodies or the private sector.
- 06/12 - Peruvian Park Ranger's Day
The Peruvian Ministry of Environment, through Ministerial Resolution No. 077-2008-MINAM, established a day to highlight the work done by Peruvian park rangers; protecting the biological diversity existing in Natural Protected Areas. In this hard work, some have given their lives. The park ranger is the person in charge of the protection and preservation of wild areas, historical sites and cultural sites. He or she is the main person responsible for outreach, dissemination, control, monitoring, research support, and public service activities; he or she balances the enjoyment of visitors with the conservation of nature.
- 09/12 | Day for Biosafety and Responsible Use of Biotechnology
Created to promote national awareness of the possible risks that the transfer, handling, use and release of living modified organisms (LMOs) could pose to the environment, biological diversity, human health and the socioeconomic structure. With the approval of the Regulation of Law No. 29811, a 10-year national moratorium is established for the entry and cultivation of living modified organisms, providing an opportunity for Peruvian farmers, who with the support of the State will identify the centers of origin and diversification of native biodiversity, in addition to strengthening research and the country's competitiveness based on its native crops and agrobiodiversity.
- 10/12 - Human Rights Day
The COVID-19 crisis has been fueled by deepening poverty, increasing inequalities, structural and entrenched discrimination and other gaps in the protection of human rights. Only measures to close these gaps and promote human rights can ensure full recovery and the rebuilding of a better, more resilient, just and sustainable world.
- 11/12 | International Mountain Day
The theme of International Mountain Day 2021 will be: Sustainable Tourism in Mountains. Sustainable mountain tourism can help create additional and sustainable livelihood options and promote poverty alleviation and social inclusion, as well as landscape and biodiversity conservation. It is a way of preserving natural, cultural and spiritual heritage, in order to promote local crafts and high-value products, as well as celebrating many traditional practices such as local festivals.
- 12/12 | Paris Agreement Adoption Day
The 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 21) held in Paris in 2015 concluded with the adoption of the Paris Decision and Agreement. The Paris Agreement will apply from 2020 and will aim to keep global temperature rise well below 2°C, increase adaptive capacity to the adverse effects of climate change and promote climate resilience and low-carbon development. the Paris Agreement aims to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change, in the context of sustainable development and efforts to eradicate poverty.
- 12/13/12 | National Chemical Pollution Action Day
Established to raise public awareness about the risk to health and the environment caused by the use of chemical substances. There are currently a large number of synthetic chemicals that are increasing in number every year; however, the potential effects they produce are known to the population in some cases, but little is known about others. The date invites to work on awareness actions through the dissemination of information and promotion of effective policies for environmental and health protection.
