PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic. A rich, diverse and constructive dialogue took place here on October 12 and 13 within the framework of the IV Workshop of the Low Emission Development Strategies Platform for Latin America and the Caribbean (LEDS LAC), which was hosted by the National Council for Climate Change and the Clean Development Mechanism (CNCCMDL-RD).

The activity attracted the participation of 33 countries in the region, which were represented by 146 experts in the topics addressed, promoting progress in building “bridges for the implementation of low-emission and climate-resilient development strategies”, connecting different sectors, levels of government, actors and approaches for the promotion of LEDS in the region.

“We are a community that is part of a center of solidary thinking, low in emissions. We belong to a dignified community that has human quality and a vision of the future.”, said Mr. Omar Ramirez Tejada during the closing of the event. Ramirez Tejada, who is executive vice-president of the CNCCMDL-RD, on behalf of the President of the Republic, Danilo Medina Sanchez, thanked the LEDS LAC Secretariat for having selected the country for this important international event.

Also at the close of the workshop, Mr. Neeraj Prasad, representative of LEDS Global Partnership and the World Bank, noted: “You've been able to create partnership relationships and a rich exchange of knowledge, and you've been able to dive deep into these issues and have learned some things that you can integrate into your work.”, and invited to the next event in 2016.

High-level panels, capacity building sessions, plenary sessions and spaces for group discussions on topics suggested by the Platform and those proposed by the participants were the modalities for the exchange of knowledge and learning.

An innovative initiative was a fair-type marketplace of ideas, set up outside the working rooms, which gave way to an exchange of documents and approaches on LEDS initiatives being implemented by the participating entities.

The Workshop was organized by the National Council for Climate Change and the Clean Development Mechanism of the Dominican Republic and the LEDS LAC Platform, together with CAF Development Bank of Latin America and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Supported by the World Bank and the European Union through the program EUROCLIMA.
