The project \u201cImplementation of measures to adapt to climate change\u201d, developed by the Ministry of the Environment (Minam) in the Alto Mayo basins, San Martin region, and the Quillcayhuanca sub-basin, Ancash, was carried out.<\/p>\n
The coordination informed that the project includes two pilot measures: one in San Martin, related to the improvement of the coffee crop to deal with the rust plague, and the other related to the role of beekeeping and how it helps in times of drought.<\/p>\n
With respect to financing, US$ 400 thousand dollars were provided in each basin, about US$150 thousand for management and another 150 thousand for training and awareness raising.
\nIn San Martin, various stakeholders participated, one of the main ones being the Moyobamba Ecosystem Services Management Committee, which brings together various institutions.
\n\u00abThe management committee is a public-private platform. The coffee growers\u00bb associations and cooperatives were important actors; the technical advisors of the project were Senamhi, Senasa and Inia,\" he indicated.<\/p>\n
In the Ancash region, technical assistance is provided by the Universidad Santiago Ant\u00fanez de Mayolo and the University of Texas, Indeci and Cenepred.
\nIn addition to pilot adaptation measures, the project includes training for public officials on climate change adaptation and public investment, as well as awareness campaigns for young people, schoolchildren and the general public.<\/p>\n
The project is financed by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and will run from February 2012 to September 2014.<\/p>\n
