\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCOVID-19<\/strong> made the ecological footprint<\/strong> of mankind to contract, demonstrating that it is possible to change consumption patterns<\/strong> of resources in the short term. However, the true sustainability that would allow everyone to prosper on Earth could only be achieved by planning<\/strong>not because of a plague.<\/span>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Earth Overshoot Day 2020 occurred over three weeks later<\/strong> than in 2019, according to Global Footprint Network. The date reflects the 9.3% reduction<\/strong> of humanity's ecological footprint from January 1 until Overshoot Day (when we exceed the annual limits) on Earth, compared to the same period last year, which is a direct consequence of the cancellation of non-essential face-to-face activities worldwide<\/strong>. Two of the main drivers of the reduction are the Forest Products Footprint and the Carbon Footprint, which decreased by 8.4% and 14.5%, respectively.<\/p>\n

The sudden reduction in the Ecological Footprint year after year, however, is a far cry from the intentional changes that are required<\/strong> to achieve both ecological stability and human well-being, two inextricable components of sustainability. Humanity currently uses a 60% more than can be refurbished<\/strong> - or as much as if we lived in 1.6 Earths.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
