The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), made up of more than 90 scientists from 40 countries, released on October 8 the Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5\u00b0C<\/a>. Panmao Zhai, co-chair of Working Group I of the IPCC, said that one of the key messages of the report is that we are already experiencing the consequences of a 1\u00b0C global warming, with more extreme weather conditions, rising sea levels<\/strong> and shrinking Arctic sea ice. The report highlights a number of climate change impacts that could be avoided by limiting global warming to 1.5\u00b0C instead of 2\u00b0C or more. For example, if the planet's temperature rises there will be further extinction of species<\/strong>There will be an increase in deaths and diseases caused by heat; and there will be an increase in droughts. In addition, coral reefs would decline by 70% to 90% with a global warming of 1.5\u00b0C, while virtually all coral reefs would disappear with a global warming of 2\u00b0C.<\/p>\n
