European Union highlights COP20 as an indispensable step to reach an agreement on Climate Change
The Minister of the Environment and President-in-Office of COP20, Manuel Pulgar-Vidal, opened the session of the RiunioneMinisterialiAmbienti in Milan, which brought together more than 50 ministers and government representatives from European Union member countries.
The Peruvian minister stressed the importance of the COP to be held in Lima in December of this year as a last opportunity to give a clear signal that a change is wanted. In addition, the minister made reference to the signals that countries are already beginning to give in the fight against the phenomenon and called on the countries of the European Union to continue moving forward. “I know that Europe will achieve consensus to significantly reduce carbon emissions,” he said.
After the speech, support was received from European countries to achieve the objectives set at COP20. Finally, the Spanish Secretary of State for the Environment, Federico Ramos, commented that his country will cooperate with Peru. “Peru's commitment to climate change is an example for the world and an inspiration for the European Union,” he added.
