Climate Finance Week in Lima
This week Lima ClimateFinanceWeek took place, a meeting that brought together professionals, experts and representatives from the public and private sectors, as well as special guest Felipe Calderón, former Mexican president and current honorary president of the GreenGrowthAction Alliance.
During the inauguration, Minister Castilla, who represented the MEF, was present, as well as the Minister of the Environment Manuel Pulgar Vidal.
Minister Castilla stated that inaction in the face of climate change could cause Peru to lose between 4 to 5 points of its GDP. He also referred to the fundamental role of the private sector in the climate agenda. In addition, Calderón emphasized that the need for private sector innovation plays a key role in the fight against climate change.
During Climate Change Week, speakers focused on the new financial tools available to the private sector and the conditions necessary to take advantage of them, such as Henk de Jong, CEO of Philips LatAm, who spoke about his experience in the use of public-private financing schemes for efficient lighting in cities, and Salvatore Bernabei, CEO of Enel Green Power for the Andean countries, who spoke about the interest in investing in renewable energy, especially in Peru.
Green Climate Fund officials presented the importance of the Green Climate Fund to developing countries, as well as the steps and processes they must follow to put themselves on the international climate finance map and improve their public policies through sustainable development.
