Today, the President of the Republic, Ollanta Humala Tasso promulgated the Supreme Decrees that approve the four Regulations of the Forestry and Wildlife Law. The event was held at the CITE Madera in Villa El Salvador and was also attended by the Ministers of Production, Piero Ghezzi; of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Magaly Silva; and the Vice Ministers of Strategic Development of Natural Resources of MINAM, Gabriel Quijandría; and of Agrarian Policies of the Ministry of Agriculture, César Sotomayor; as well as the Executive Director of the National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR), Fabiola Muñoz; and various authorities from international cooperation and the private sector.

In this regard, the new Forestry and Wildlife Law No. 29763 and its four regulations establish better rules of the game to facilitate the formality of those seeking access to wild flora and fauna resources. They also simplify the work of those who already carry out these productive activities, thus helping to reduce deforestation levels and move towards efficient, competitive and sustainable forest management.

During his speech, President Ollanta Humala stated that this regulation entails a series of benefits and opportunities such as administrative simplification, reduction of deadlines, consolidation of multi-year operational plans, formalization of small industry, access to formalization for drivers of agroforestry systems and access to communities to the titling process in a more efficient manner, among others. "We are committed to the sustainable management of the Forest and Wildlife Heritage, therefore we provide easy, efficient and transparent services that promote a low-carbon economy and at the same time boost the legal timber market and wildlife enterprises," he said.

It is worth noting that as part of this process of reforming the forestry sector, a broad gathering of citizens from all regions of the country was achieved, who in response to the great global challenges -such as the fight against deforestation and climate change- joined forces with the State and indigenous peoples to draft the four regulations of the Forestry and Wildlife Law No. 29763 in a participatory manner and with free and informed public consultation.

These regulations cover: forest management; wildlife management; peasant communities; and forest plantations and agroforestry systems. Thanks to these regulations, forest and wildlife management will achieve the effective and decentralized participation of the State institutions involved, as well as forest users. This will lead to better decision making, access to benefits and consensus building based on defined responsibilities, legal certainty, transparency and accountability.
