Reduction of polluting emissions in Peru would generate investments for S/. 7,300 million
Opting for climate change mitigation measures would generate investments of S/. 7,300 million.
The Climate Change Planning Project (PlanCC), promoted by the Peruvian government and technically coordinated by Libélula, presented a study in which it was found that reducing polluting emissions in the country would offer many advantages for the country's development, among them the possibility of generating investments for S/. 7,300 million, of which 2/3 can be mobilized by the private sector. It is specified that this investment is equivalent to approximately 26% of the portfolio of projects currently managed by the Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversión).
The research, which began two years ago, also revealed that by 2050, Peru's 40 million inhabitants will generate higher energy consumption, increased deforestation, waste generation and the use of transportation systems.
The largest opportunities would be in the energy and transportation sectors, which account for 45% and 48% respectively of total investments.
