Race For Water Odyssey: The world's first self-sustainable boat has arrived in Peru

"Race for Water Odyssey, the first 100% ship powered by renewable energies, arrived in Lima as part of a five-year scientific expedition to demonstrate that it is possible to move a ship around the world using energy from the sun, air and water.
This vessel will dedicate this two-month stopover in Lima to promote educational programs focused on raising awareness about plastic pollution in the seas, in different audiences ranging from visits by school children to presentations of Clean-Tech innovations installed on board with authorities, businessmen, industry representatives, among others.
Clean technology for the planet
Running the first zero-emission ship is a technological feat that has required the help of many engineers, professional sailors and experienced technicians. It has more than 500 square meters of solar panels equivalent to 38,000 photovoltaic cells. This energy source can provide 93 kilowatts per hour and power the ship.
This innovative catamaran also has a system that produces energy from hydrogen collected from seawater and a "kite" with a surface area of 40 square meters that rises to a height of 150 meters and can double the speed of the boat by taking advantage of the available wind.
Additional data:
The vessel will be in our country until May 15 and will be located mainly in the port of Callao, where it will receive all those interested in learning more about this innovative proposal. See calendar of events.
The Race for Water Foundation's proposal is to identify, promote and implement solutions that give value to plastic at the end of its useful life, creating new sources of income for the people most affected by pollution. For real impact, the foundation stresses the importance of long-term solutions that are sustainable and economically viable, such as transforming plastic waste into energy.
