Private enterprise at COP 20
Today was held the conference: “Private enterprise in the face of COP 20”, organized by Libélula, the Swiss Chamber of Commerce in Peru and the Swiss Development Cooperation. The Swiss Ambassador to Peru, Hans-Ruedi Bortis, welcomed the attendees and stressed the importance of raising awareness about climate change and its consequences.
The main presentation was given by Javier Perla, Libélula's Sustainable Business Manager, who began by explaining the seriousness of climate change for our society and how this phenomenon will affect our future. He also indicated that climate change is the greatest challenge humanity has ever faced and that it is up to us to stop it in time.
During his speech, Javier explained to the attendees that climate change is a latent threat to companies, as it can affect almost every part of the value chain. Furthermore, if something is not done about it, the world GDP will be seriously affected.
“Today's public demands products derived from responsible companies and more and more people want to know what kind of impact the products they consume have,” he said. On the other hand, Javier affirms that the trend in the business sector is to reduce its environmental footprint because of the benefits it generates, including cost reduction.
Continuing with Javier's words, Daniela Freundt, Libélula's Sustainable Business Consultant, explained the importance of involving employees in the company's environmental management and that the ideal formula to reduce our emissions is: Measure + Manage + Compensate.
Sarah Franciscolo, World Climate Summit Project Manager, also spoke about the World Climate Summit event, to be held at the Hilton Hotel in Lima on December 10, and invited attendees to participate in this meeting aimed at: CEOs, business executives, investors, entrepreneurs, philanthropists and municipal chiefs.
