[July 1] XVII Biennial IASC Conference

The XVII Biennial Conference of the International Association for the Study of the Commons (IASC), entitled "In Defense of the Commons: Challenges, Innovation and Action" will convene a dialogue involving international academia, civil society and policy makers in the region on the diverse ways in which people defend, conserve and coordinate the management of the commons. These goods include forests, energy, oceans or mountains as well as parks or squares in urban space.

Organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences of the PUCP and the Faculty of Economics of the Universidad de los Andes (Bogota, Colombia). Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of the Environment, LUM and CIFOR.

[July 3] WEBINAR: Participatory processes for reviewing, implementing and raising ambition in the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)

This webinar is organized by the LEDS LAC Regional Platform and will focus on the importance of citizen, multi-sectoral and multi-level participation in order to establish low-emission and climate change resilient economic development processes that are sustainable in the long term. The objective of the webinar is to share participatory processes that are working in Latin America, as well as to open a space for an exchange of ideas between countries on the challenges and opportunities that we have in the region to integrate different participants in the review and implementation of the NDCs.

[July 3] International Plastic Bag Free Day

The Peruvian government joins the celebrations on this date, with the aim of raising global awareness about the uncontrolled use of plastic bags, encourage the reduction of these and promote responsible consumption. Since the enactment of Law 30884, which regulates single-use plastic and disposable containers or packaging in Peru, the aim is to contribute to the realization of the right of all people to enjoy a balanced and adequate environment for the development of their lives, reducing the adverse impact of single-use plastic, plastic marine, river and lake waste and other similar pollutants on human health and the environment.
