María Elena Gútierrez

Research Manager

Master’s degree in Sustainable Development and Conservation Biology from the University of Maryland, US. Fulbright intern, she is an industrial engineer with postgraduate studies in environmental engineering in Peru.

She has experience in sustainable development, biodiversity and climate change policies. She has managed technical cooperation projects. Also, she carried out thedesign of environmental public policies for countries members of the Andean Community (CAN) for 8 years. She has the skills to facilitate consensus in participatory workshops and to carry out fundraisings with international organizations.
Maria Elena took part in business international negotiationsprocesses, mainly related to trade and environment, biodiversity and health legislation. Also, she has run multidisciplinary and participative processes for the design and approval of strategies for the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversityand climate change. Besides, carrying out consultancies associated with financial sustainability, ecosystem services and biofuel, she is lecturer in Ecology and Biodiversity, as well as Ecological Economics. Currently, she hold the position of Research Manager at Libelula, where she has managed projects on vulnerability and adjustment to the climate change, risk management, climate change economy, climate scanning, microfinances and long term scenarios for mitigation, among others.
