Business leaders met today to define their commitments in the fight against climate change through the 7C initiative, an innovative virtual platform that shows in real time the actions and good corporate practices of companies committed to this global problem.

7C has the participation of around one hundred organizations, including companies, unions, NGOs and international cooperation agencies that seek to contribute to the national contribution goals (INDC) towards COP21.

At this meeting, strategies and actions were defined on the contribution of the private sector in the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The event was attended by the Minister of the Environment, Manuel Pulgar Vidal, and representatives of Peru 2021, WWF, Universidad del Pacífico and Libélula.

Minister Pulgar Vidal said that the corporate sector has evolved and today social responsibility implies thinking globally in the long term. «It is important what was achieved [during COP20] in Lima, we are notably involving the private sector with public decision making,» he said.

“Climate Change is an opportunity to strengthen the way we do business,” said Javier Perla, Libélula's Sustainable Business Manager and General Coordinator of 7C. “Our goal is to arrive in Paris with a tool for companies to show that they are doing things right.”.

“Articulating the different initiatives of companies and generating change is a fundamental step in the fight against climate change,” said Patricia León Melgar, Country Representative of WWF-Peru.

Diego de la Torre, president of Peru 2021, added: «Private companies are committed to economic growth but with social and environmental responsibility».

About 7C:

It was created around the commitment of the private sector in the management of climate change. It seeks to highlight the good practices that companies carry out to manage their impacts, demonstrating their leadership and responsibility in the implementation of the national climate agenda. The 7Cs are: Commit, Calculate, Train, Conduct, Compensate, Consider and Communicate.

7C is an initiative of Libélula and Perú 2021.
