The "Super Tree", a Peruvian invention that is a finalist in The History Channel contest
This Peruvian engineer created and patented a process to clean the air, which was initially embodied in the Urban Air Purifier (PAU 20), which is a machine that purifies large volumes of air at a low cost. The machine removes 99 % of harmful particles spread in the air at a rate of 200,000m3/day. If a person breathes 10 m3/day, the PAU 20 has the capacity to purify air for 20,000 people/day.
Currently, there are only two urban air purifiers installed in Lima, both on Salaverry Avenue. They are in the Parque de la Democracia, Jesus Maria (in front of the Edgardo Rebagliati Hospital), and a few blocks away, in the Parque del Pensionista, next to the Ministry of Labor.
Gutiérrez assures that Salaverry Avenue is "the first road corridor in the world with urban air purifiers to mitigate air pollution and preserve the health of its citizens".
The machines have zero cost for the municipalities that want to install them. "Their construction, installation and operation is paid for with the advertising placed by the companies as social responsibility. In exchange, they are given a certificate to deduct taxes".
In total, it aims to install 400 purifiers in Lima and more in the 31 cities with the dirtiest air in the country.
