World Cup was the greenest in its history
July 2014, Brazil - FIFA has announced projects to offset the emissions generated by the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™. This offsetting will take place in the operations they directly control including those caused by the venues, stadiums, offices, television production, as well as those caused by the transportation and accommodation of staff, volunteers, guests and teams.
FIFA and the LOC also launched a campaign to raise awareness among fans to participate in a contest to offset the emissions from their travel to the tournament. FIFA will offset around 331,000 tons of CO2 with four certified emission reduction projects (CERS), of which 251,000 tons will come from its own emissions and 80,000 tons from the fans who participated in the contest.
