G20 supports strong and effective action on Climate Change
The G20 summit in Australia expressed support for “strong and effective” action to tackle climate change and a UN green fund, they said Sunday in their final communiqué.
“We support strong and effective action to address climate change. We reaffirm our support for the mobilization of financial means for adaptation [of countries affected by climate change], such as the United Nations ”green fund", which will help the poor countries most at risk, the communiqué adds.
G20 countries will work “together to successfully adapt a protocol or agree on a legally binding outcome under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change applicable to all parties” at the climate summit scheduled for 2015 in Paris.
This announcement comes shortly after Japan put its contribution to the UN green fund at $1.5 billion, which joins the $3 billion pledged by the United States on Saturday.
